• Nancy Pelosi said Mitch McConnell worked hard to put in place conservative Supreme Court judges.
  • Pelosi said he got rid of the filibuster so judges could be confirmed with just 51 votes instead of 60.
  • She said the move was political specifically now that the Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. Wade.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell "pulled back the filibuster rule" so he could get conservative judges approved onto the High Court for political gain.

"Mitch McConnell pulled back the filibuster rule in order to have those justices confirmed by 51 by not needing 60 votes by 51. So this is a political decision on the part of this- the rule of law in our country should be respected," Pelosi said in an interview with CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday.

Pelosi was discussing a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade.

She added: "Women should be respected to make their own judgments with their family, their doctor, their God."

Insider's Yelena Dzhanova and John L. Dorman previously reported that McConnell has long worked to reshape the Supreme Court by blocking Democratic nominees and working with Republican presidents to put conservative jurists in place.

A recent report from The Washington Post said McConnell especially worked hard with former President Donald Trump to get conservative judges confirmed. Three conservative judges were confirmed during Trump's tenure: Judges Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.
